Edward Bragg had a day to remember for Worcestershire Under-17s when their 2018 ECB Specsavers County Championship programme got underway against Hampshire Under-17s at Stourbridge today.
Seamer Bragg returned the excellent figures of 12.1-3-21-6 as Hampshire, who elected to bat, were bowled out for 387 in 86.1 overs.
Worcestershire openers Callum Lea and Bilal Hussain negotiated eight overs in reaching 38-0 by the close.
Hampshire openers Cole Campbell and George Metzger (32) put on exactly 100 before the latter was stumped by Ben Fitzmaurice off Pete Clark.
Paceman Riecko Parker-Cole accounted for Campbell who was trapped lbw for 73 after another 47 had been added.
Hampshire reached 202-2 but then Bragg got in on the act with three wickets in quick succession.
Number three Tom Prest (68) was caught behind, George Pardoe (37) was bowled and Monaam Abbas (3) also fell to the Fitzmaurice-Bragg combination.
It became 237-6 when Clark had Jake Nichols (10) leg before.
A partnership of 131 between Abhay Gonella (56) and Oliver Southon (80) swung the advantage back towards Hampshire.
But then Bragg collected three of the last four wickets which fell for just 19 runs.
Parker-Cole ended with figures of 17-1-81-2 and Clark 20-3-86-2.
Lea, who scored a double century against Hampshire in last season’s match at Basingstoke, finished unbeaten on 18 and Bilal Hussain 13 not out.
