Sharp Praise For Seconds Response In Opening Brace Of T20 Games

Kevin Sharp praised the reaction of Worcestershire Seconds players in bouncing back from a T20 hammering by MCC Young Cricketers to inflict a similar thrashing on the same opposition.

The Seconds were beaten by nine wickets in Game One at Merchant Taylor's School in London.

But then they stormed to a 10 wicket success in Game Two to redress the balance and pick up their first two points in the 2017 tournament.

Second Eleven Coach Sharp said: "The lads were a bit fed up with themselves in the first game.

"They knew that they had under-achieved and had not played anywhere near to their abilities.

"They wanted to put it right, and they did, and we came home in a pretty good frame of mind in that respect."

Sharp, who is also the County's Batting Coach, admitted: "It was a day of two halves. I think we got caught on the hop a little bit in the first game.

"It was the first time we'd played this format this year as a group.

"We perhaps didn't go out with the confidence and intent that we could have and we had one or two soft dismissals to be honest so we finished up getting bowled out for 94.

"We didn't start particularly well with the ball and they were very positive. They've got some good players, and we got trounced really. They knocked them off in 12.2 overs.

"But the second game was completely the opposite. The scores were pretty much the same as the first game – but the other way around – and the game finished in almost exactly the same number of overs.

"We bowled really well, we fielded well and then we went out and batted with purpose and intent, took advantage of the first six overs in the powerplay and the two lads, Zen Malik and Alex Hepburn, knocked them off.

"They played with that confidence, purpose and intent that you need to have in T20 cricket so credit to them.

"We got hammered in the first game and then hammered them in the second game so it was an interesting day."

The Seconds next double header of T20 matches will be on June 19 against Northamptonshire at Northampton.
