Worcestershire CCC Head Coach Kevin Sharp has named a 13-strong squad for the opening Specsavers County Championship match with Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl starting tomorrow (Friday).
Australian batsman Travis Head is poised to make his debut and follow a distinguished list of his compatriots to have represented the County.
The likes of Tom Moody, Glenn McGrath, Andy Bichel, the late Phil Hughes and, last season, John Hastings have all played for Worcestershire during the past two decades.
Another Australian who has represented the County in paceman Steve Magoffin will make his second ‘debut’ against Hampshire.
He first represented Worcestershire during the first half of the 2008 season.
Magoffin made his debut that year against Warwickshire in the drawn game at Edgbaston when current opener Daryl Mitchell was part of the side.
The full line-up that day was: Daryl Mitchell, Stephen Moore, Vikram Solanki, Ben Smith, Graeme Hick, Steven Davies, Gareth Batty, Kabir Ali, Gareth Andrew, Steve Magoffin and Simon Jones.
Head and Magoffin join Ben Twohig and Charlie Morris in being added to nine of the players who featured in the promotion clinching win against Durham at New Road last September.
