Shantry’s Fine All-Round Performance Helps Kangaroos Claim First Innings Points

A fine all-round performance from Worcestershire's Jack Shantry helped earn Greenvale Kangaroos first innings points in their rain-affected two day game with visiting Frankston Peninsula in the Victorian Premier Cricket Bartercard Men's Premier Firsts.

Paceman Shantry picked up three wickets and finished as second top scorer with 42 as the Kangaroos eased to their 174 target and a three wicket success with 11 balls to spare.

The first day of the match the previous weekend had been washed out so the game effectively became a one innings per side contest.

Frankston elected to bat after winning the toss with Shantry taking the new ball.

He made his first breakthrough with the fourth wicket of the innings with 80 on the board and picked up two more to finish with the impressive figures of 3-28 from his 10 overs.

Frankston closed on 173-9 from their 50 overs.

The Kangaroos did not make the best of starts to their reply and were 74-4 when Shantry came to the wicket following the dismissal of county team-mate Ben Cox for 10.

He figured in the match-winning stand of 75 with J. Lidgett who top-scored with 52 before being run out at 149-5.

There was then a mini wobble with Shantry also run out at 163-7 with 11 still needed but the Kangaroos got over the finishing line.

Ross Whiteley picked up two wickets and may have a key role to play with the bat if Prospect CC are to chase down home side Tea Tree Gully's total of 267 in a South Australian Cricket Association first grade match.

New Road all-rounder Whiteley came on first change and split an opening partnership of 77 and finished with figures of 2-49 from 13 overs as Tea Tree Gully were bowled out in 77.3 overs.

Prospect CC finished the first day on 29-1 from 16 overs with Whiteley, who came in at number three unbeaten on 11 from 25 balls.

The game is due to be completed on January 24.
