Jack Shantry has issued a "I'm fine" message after being forced to retire when batting for Greenvale Kangaroos last weekend.
The Worcestershire paceman had opened the batting in a T20 match with Geelong and was on eight not out when he attempted a sweep shot and was struck just below the chin.
Shantry required six stitches and was unable to bowl as the Kangaroos suffered an eight wicket defeat.
Shantry tweeted afterwards: "Not the best day of cricket. First time I've retired hurt, six stitches for trying to sweep the seamer."
But today Shantry confirmed that he is okay and will have the stitches removed tomorrow.
He said: ""I'm fine thanks. I get the stitches taken out on Friday. I got hit just below the chin."
The Kangaroos will hope that Shantry is able to return to action in Saturday's away clash with Dandenong in a Victorian Premier Cricket Bartercard Men's Premier Firsts fixture.
He and New Road wicket-keeper Ben Cox have been consistent performers for Greenvale during the first part of the campaign.
