Worcestershire Seconds will launch their warm-up programme for the new campaign with a 50 over friendly against Shropshire CCC at Wrekin College, Wellington tomorrow (Sunday).
It will be an opportunity for coach Kevin Sharp's side to get in some practice ahead of the 50 over Second Eleven Trophy which, like its first team equivalent the Royal London One-Day Cup is being played earlier in the summer in 2017.
Worcestershire experienced mixed fortunes last season, climbing four places to finish fourth in the Second Eleven Championship but struggling in the Trophy and T20 competitions.
All-rounder George Rhodes will skipper the side at Wrekin – a role he held during the first half of last season before breaking into the senior side.
Keeper Alex Milton will be behind the stumps for the third time in four days, having played in the first team double header of 50 over matches against Somerset at Taunton Vale.
Milton top-scored with 66 in the first game but was run-out for nought in the second encounter.
Eight of the players named in the squad by Sharp – a former Shropshire coach – featured in either of the two matches at Taunton Vale.
The Seconds first competitive fixture gets underway on April 18 when they take on Warwickshire in the Championship at RGS Worcester.
