Worcestershire launch their Second Eleven Championship campaign tomorrow with a three-day clash against local rivals Warwickshire at RGS Worcester (11am start).
Coach Kevin Sharp's side made big strides forward in last season's competition in climbing four places in the North Group to finish fourth.
The Seconds registered three victories, against Leicestershire at Oakham School, Northamptonshire at Kidderminster and Nottinghamshire at RGS Worcester.
Their previous clash with Warwickshire took place under floodlights at Edgbaston as part of an ECB experiment ahead of this summer's Test match under similar conditions between England and the West Indies.
All-rounder George Rhodes will skipper the Seconds and the side boasts a strong looking batting line-up.
But Sharp knows the make-up of a side can change from match to match depending on availability, injuries and first team commitments.
He said: "Squads change in the second eleven. You can have a number of experienced players one week and the next it could be a relatively inexperienced team.
"That is the nature of it. I know looking at the fixtures, particularly early season, there are a few days when the second team are playing when the first team are not playing.
"If there is anyone who needs a bit of form or needs that extra game or so, then the opportunities will be there for them to play second eleven cricket if necessary."
