worcestershire seconds are involved a four-way battle to qualify for the semi-finals of the second eleven trophy heading into their final game.
the seconds kept alive their hopes of finishing in the top two of the north group with monday’s convincing win over derbyshire at New Road.
they are on six points from five games along with yorkshire, durham and derbyshire but lying in fourth spot on current net run rate.
the seconds complete their programme in just over two weeks against northamptonshire at finedon cc and must win and hope other results-net run rates go their way.
the top two in the north group and the south group qualify for the semis.
head of player and coaches development kevin sharp, who oversaw the derbyshire game where the lead coach was andy sutton, said: “we played on the new hybrid pitch which played absolutely brilliantly and had good carry and even bounce.
“it was great to play at New Road and the lads were excellent in the field and with the ball.
“one of their guys (fynn hudson-prentice) played an exceptional innings and got them to something competitive.
“but angus robson, who is playing some second team cricket with us, played brilliantly as did ollie westbury and dolly (brett d’oliveira) and we cruised over the line really.
“the last game is a couple of weeks away but we’ve just got to go there, play well and hopefully win and see what happens with other results.”
