Seconds Go Close To Victory But Denied By Thompson Ton At Scarborough

Worcestershire Seconds came within two wickets of victory as an undefeated century from Jordan Thompson helped Yorkshire Seconds to earn a draw in the Second Eleven Championship match at Scarborough.

The two sides opened the match up after the loss of the opening day with Yorkshire declaring their first innings overnight at 20-1 and then Worcestershire forefeiting their second innings.

Yorkshire were left a target of 354 in 96 overs and were 16-4 and then 99-6 but Thompson finished on 146 not out and was well supported in stands of 84 and 131 respectively by Azeem Rafiq and James Wainman.

Yorkshire eventually closed on 328-8.

Josh Tongue and Charlie Morris did the early damage for Worcestershire as they claimed two wickets apiece.

Tongue, who is easing his way back to fitness after his back problem, was able to send down nine overs and finished with 2-18 and Morris 2-64.

Skipper George Rhodes chipped in with two wickets but Thompson was an unmovable block and his 186 ball knock contained five sixes and 14 fours.
