Worcestershire Seconds were involved in a close run Second Eleven Trophy clash with their Warwickshire counterparts before going down by two wickets at RGS Worcester today.
The home side included several first team batsmen in their side ahead of next Wednesday's Royal London One-Day Cup quarter-final clash with Somerset at Taunton.
The in form Tom Fell, was dismissed by Oliver Hannon-Dalby for a duck – caught behind down the legside – after Worcestershire opted to bat first on a slowish pitch offering encouragement to the slow bowlers.
George Rhodes featured in a stand of 43 with Joe Clarke (27) who skied Hannon-Dalby to mid on.
Rhodes then added another 55 with Alexei Kervezee before the was run out for 30 by Will Porterfield's throw from cover.
Kervezee made 43 before he picked out the fielder at deep square leg off Josh Poysden – one of three spinners used by the visitors.
The remainder of the innings was held together by Alex Milton who played in this game purely as a batsman with Clarke keeping wicket.
Milton worked the ball around effectively in scoring an unbeaten 50 off 67 balls with two boundaries as Worcestershire were bowled out for 209 in 49.2 overs.
His fine knock followed on from his century on Sunday for Old Malvernians in helping them to lift the Cricketer Cup.
Warwickshire openers Porterfield (42) and Liam Banks (53) put on 101 before they fell in quick succession to Alex Hepburn and Josh Haynes respectively.
Kervezee (3-40) and Haynes (2-40) both bowled effective 10 over spells as wickets fell at regular intervals.
Then the third spinner in Rhodes picked up two wickets in three balls to leave Warwickshire on 194-8 before Poysden and Ateeq Javid saw Warwickshire over the line with 2.1 overs to spare.
