England Under-19s chairman of selectors, David Graveney OBE, has expressed his disappointment at Worcestershire paceman George Scrimshaw and several other players being ruled out of the January-February tour of India through injury.
Scrimshaw suffered a back injury during the Young Lions training camp in the UAE during the past month and he returned home early from the trip.
The first year professional at New Road underwent a scan before flying home and Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes confirmed earlier in the week that he will undergo another one back in this country.
Scrimshaw had also missed a warm-up game against a UAE X1 with a finger injury but impressed with two wickets in a second match against the same opposition.
Graveney confirmed: “Six players have been ruled out by injury – Surrey’s Amar Virdi, Worcestershire’s George Scrimshaw, Yorkshire’s Ed Barnes and Durham’s Josh Coughlin were all injured on the Young Lions training camp in Dubai this month, and Somerset’s Ben Green and Warwickshire’s George Panayi had been ruled out before that.
“Obviously that is a disappointment both to us and to those players, who have now returned to their counties."
Worcestershire Academy player Josh Dell was also part of the UAE training camp but has not been chosen for the Indian tour.
Dell featured in last summer's Under-19 series against Sri Lanka.
