Scrimshaw And Dell Benefit From Advice At Young Lions Camp

Scrimshaw And Dell Benefit From Advice At Young Lions Camp

Worcestershire duo, paceman George Scrimshaw and batsman Josh Dell, benefited from a host of England players offering their expertise during a Young Lions programme training camp at Loughborough during the past three days.

Graham Onions, James Tredwell and Richard Dawson joined the list of England players involved in the Saturday to Monday get together at the National Performance Centre.

Durham paceman Onions teamed up with another former international seamer in Jon Lewis, to work with the fast bowlers – including Scrimshaw who has just started his first professional contract at New Road.

Tredwell and Dawson have been focusing on the spinners in the absence of Peter Such, the ECB lead spin bowling coach who is already in Dubai with the England Lions squad.

Onions linked up with his county captain Paul Collingwood – who has been working with the Young Lions all autumn – and will be travelling to a Young Lions three week training camp in Dubai from December 3 to 23 as a member of their coaching staff.

Also involved will be Neil Killeen, the former Durham seamer who has been a regular coach on the ECB International Pathway for several years.

This winter he will be working specifically with a group of fast bowlers including Scrimshaw.

Scrimshaw and Dell and the rest of the squad will be based at the ICC Academy in Dubai and will take on the UAE in two one-day and one three-day fixture.

The Young Lions are aiming for selection in a 15-man England Under-19s squad for the tour of India in the New Year for which former Gloucestershire, Surrey and Sussex seamer Lewis will be the fast bowling coach.

It will include five 50-over Under-19 internationals in Mumbai between January 30 and February 8 and then two four-day “Tests” in Chennai from February 13-24.

Dell featured in the summer series versus Sri Lanka Under-19s while Scrimshaw was called up for the second 'Test' at Northampton but had to withdraw through injury.
