RUTHERFORD’S MAJOR ROLE IN VOLTS SEALING KNOCKOUT STAGES SPOT

Hamish Rutherford has played a major role in Otago Volts clinching a place in the latter stages of the Super Smash T20 competition with one game to spare.

Worcestershire CCC’s 2020 overseas signing is currently the Volts second highest scorer with 284 runs from nine knocks at an average of 35.50.

Rutherford also has the HIGHEST strike rate of any Volts player at 175.30 runs per 100 balls.

He is also their LEADING six hitter and has cleared the ropes on 17 occasions – the kind of form Rapids fans will be hoping he will repeat in next summer’s Vitality Blast.

Rutherford, who is available to play all formats for Worcestershire next summer, and the Volts are guaranteed a top four spot.

They are currently lying in second spot – two points behind Wellington Firebirds but with a game in hand.

Should Rutherford and Co win their final group game – away to Canterbury Kings on Tuesday – they will go straight through to the January 19 final.

Victory against the Kings would enable them to avoid having to play in the Eliminator Final two days earlier.
