Richard Sugden – Head of Finance
Richard Sugden is a highly skilled and energetic finance professional whose background in both finance and education brings a dynamic approach to his role at Worcestershire County Cricket Club. Starting his career with KPMG, Richard built a strong foundation in Audit and Restructuring and became a Chartered Accountant (ACA) in 2016. He has since led finance teams in the distribution and construction industries, specializing in private-equity-backed businesses within fast-paced, evolving sectors.
A graduate of Durham University, Richard is fluent in French and German, with international experience gained while living and studying abroad. Before qualifying as an accountant, he spent two years with Teach First, teaching Modern Languages in West Yorkshire. This early experience has provided him with distinctive, transferable skills that enhance his leadership style and approach to team development.
Richard’s enthusiasm for sport, especially cricket, hockey, and football, is integral to his personal and professional life. He remains an active player with Himbleton Cricket Club and is a devoted Huddersfield Town AFC supporter.
Richard’s vision for Worcestershire County Cricket Club is to establish a reliable, agile, and forward-thinking finance function that supports the Club in becoming Worcestershire’s premier venue for live sports, events, and community initiatives.
