george rhodes played a major role in onslow cc reaching the semi-finals of the crichq t20 cup with a 52 run win over petone-eastbourne in new zealand.
the worcestershire all-rounder top-scored with 64 and picked up two key wickets as onslow kept alive their hopes of a cup double.
rhodes is now the competition’s leading run-scorer with 165 runs from three knocks and has also the impressive bowling statistics of six wickets for 43 runs at an average of 7.17.
onslow, who have already won the ewen chatfield trophy 50 over competition, will now face karori cc in the semi-finals on february 22.
if onslow go through, the final will take place on february 28.
rhodes came to the wicket at 33-1 in the fourth over and added 83 in 10 overs with andrew fletcher (48).
he hit two sixes and six fours in his 44 ball knock as onslow totalled 159-6 in their 20 overs.
rhodes then dismissed top scorer dhvanil ghandi (33) – caught and bowled – and also accounted for tom carter (28) who was the only other player to reach double figures.
petone-eastbourne were dismissed for 107 in 17.1 overs as rhodes finished with figures of 2-16 from 3.1 overs.
he is approaching the end of his five month stint in wellington and is due to report back to New Road on march 1.
*rhodes and his team-mates were on the receiving end of a remarkable recovery by victoria university on day one of a pearce cup clash.
the university were at one stage 28-6 but recovered to reach 320-7 with devon conway (180 not out) sharing stands of 126 with alec hodgson (43) and an unbroken 166 with ben strang (53 not out).
rhodes bowled eight overs for 31 runs. the match will be concluded next weekend.
