Rhodes Looking Forward To How County Duo Will React Under Pressure

Steve Rhodes is looking forward to seeing how promising Worcestershire pace duo Dillon Pennington and Adam Finch react under pressure as part of the Young Lions squad this winter.

The County’s Director Of Cricket is to take charge of the Young Lions ahead of the ICC Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand in January.

He has flown out as part of a new look Young Lions coaching team along with the squad for a four-day warm weather training camp at the Desert Springs Resort at southern Spain.

Finch has already played two ODIs for the Under-19s against India during the summer but it is a first opportunity for Pennington.

Rhodes said: “They are both giants, six feet five inches, both useful prospects with the ball and certainly Dillon has got ability with the bat as well.

“It will be a great opportunity for me to enhance that relationship and see how they go under some pressure situations.

“I’m sure at times, like all the players in that squad, there are times when they are going to come under pressure.

“That is when you really do see how people go.

“Finchy played a couple of times against India. He didn’t get a great deal of bowling but he is a year older now and he will have more responsibility and he will be ready to take that responsibility.”

Andy Hurry, who is leaving as Under-19 head coach to become Director Of Cricket at Somerset, and Rhodes will both attend the four-day training camp in Desert Springs.

Rhodes will then take over for the Tri-Series in South Africa against the host nation and Namibia ahead of the World Cup.
