George Rhodes scored his first century for North Canberra Gungahlin to complete a fine all-round performance and help them earn a draw on day two of the ACT first grade match with visiting ANU.
The Worcestershire all-rounder finished on exactly 100 not out to rescue the Northies from a difficult position at the end of the first innings.
Rhodes had top-scored with 20 in North Canberra's first innings when they were dismissed for just 59 in 35.1 overs after electing to bat.
ANU reached 171-5 by the end of day one and extended this to 220 all out – a handsome lead of 161 with Rhodes picking up three more wickets to finish with 4-62 from 14 overs.
But Rhodes and his team-mates ensured there was no second innings collapse and NCG reached 197-2 off 59.2 overs by stumps.
There was just time for Rhodes to complete three figures before the two teams shook hands.
NCG lost their first wicket with 21 on the board but then Rhodes shared a second wicket partnership of 139 with L. Greenwood (66) which effectively ensured his side would escape overall defeat.
It was Rhodes second 50 plus score of the campaign after his 54 against Ginninderra but he has turned in a series of consistent performances with bat and ball.
*We will feature part two of a question and answer session with George Rhodes on the Worcs CCC website in the coming week.
