worcestershire ccc are being honoured for their vitality blast triumph with a civic reception at the guildhall next thursday evening (september 27).
the mayor of worcester, councillor jabba riaz, will greet the victorious team on the steps of the guildhall in the high street at 8pm.
the squad and officials will display the winning trophy and there will be short speeches before they enter the guildhall for the civic reception.
councillor riaz paid tribute to the achievements of the rapids who defeated sussex sharks in saturday’s final at edgbaston.
he said: “this is a tremendous victory for cricket in the county. it is a historic moment for the club and i am keen to formally recognise this and give people the opportunity to see the players and the trophy first hand.
“come along and join in the celebrations; there’s going to be a great atmosphere!”
worcestershire ceo matt rawnsley said: “it is a great honour that the club is being recognised by the mayor of worcester on behalf of the city for last saturday’s achievements.
“we played consistently well with the white ball this year – in the 50 over competition as well as t20 – and i know the lads have enjoyed every minute.
“we also play an exciting style of cricket and want to entertain our members and supporters.
“this is how we approached last saturday and we can look back on our performance with tremendous pride.”
the vitality blast trophy will also be on display in the guildhall foyer from 3.00pm to 7.00pm and from 8.15pm to 9.30pm on the same day.
members of the public are welcome to come and view it during these times, and to come and meet members of the team.
worcestershire are playing yorkshire in their final specsavers county championship match at New Road earlier in the day.
but players not involved in what will be the final day of the 2018 season will be present in the guildhall foyer from 3.00pm to 7.00pm.
the whole team will attend the evening event and players will be available in the reception area throughout the proceedings.
