Worcestershire Rapids 2022 Vitality Blast overseas signing Dwayne Bravo has become the joint leading wicket-taker in the history of the Indian Premier League.
Bravo returned splendid figures of 3-20 from his four overs when playing for holders Chennai Super Kings against Kolkata Knight Riders in the opening match of the 2022 tournament in Wankhede.
It lifted his overall wicket tally in the IPL to 170 and level with Sri Lankan fast bowler Lasith Malinga.
Bravo, signed for the bulk of the Rapids Vitality Blast campaign, has also played for Gujarat Lions and Mumbai Indians in the IPL.
He demonstrated the kind of bowling skills against the Knight Riders that will be a crucial component at New Road this summer.
Bravo came into the attack in the seventh over and his second delivery accounted for opener Venkatesh Iyer (16), who was caught behind off a ball of full length.
There was another breakthrough in Bravo’s second over when Nitish Rana (21) could not deal with a short ball and snapped up at short fine leg.
Bravo had figures of 2-0-7-2 in his first spell, and he enjoyed further success when he came back into the attack.
Sam Billings (25) only succeeded in holing out to deep mid-wicket.
Bravo’s efforts proved in vain as the Knight Riders won by six wickets with nine balls to spare.
