Rapids To Take On Surrey In New Road One-Day Cup Semi-Final

Rapids To Take On Surrey In New Road One-Day Cup Semi-Final

Worcestershire Rapids finally know their semi-final opponents in the Royal London One-Day Cup.

Skipper Joe Leach's side will take on Surrey – captained by former Worcestershire spinner Gareth Batty – at New Road on Saturday.

The Brown Caps secured their last four spot this evening via a 24 run success over Yorkshire Vikings under the Headingley lights in the play-off encounter.

Surrey totalled 313-7 thanks to Sri Lankan star Kumar Sangakkara's 121 and wicket-keeper Ben Foakes' 86 and then restricted the home side to 288-9 with Ravi Rampaul claiming three wickets.

The Rapids made sure of their place in the last four a month ago after their win over Derbyshire Falcons at the 3aaa County Ground.

That ensured they topped the North Group – after winning six and tying one of their eight games – and sealed a home semi-final.

But Leach and the squad have had to wait until today to see who they will be playing at a packed New Road.

Surrey, who finished third in the South Group, will visit New Road for the first time since Worcestershire defeated them in 2014 to seal promotion to Division One of the Championship.

That fixture will be forever known as 'Jack Shantry's match' after he scored a century batting at number nine and took 10 wickets.

But Leach's two half centuries should also not be forgotten in helping to rescue a lost looking cause.

Rapids supporters have eagerly been snapping up tickets for the semi-final since they went on sale last month.

Members can purchase tickets for £25 and non-members for £30 with juniors or junior members able to buy tickets for £10.

A hospitality package for the McMinn Marquee costs £60 and the The View top floor VIP package is available for £90.
