Rapids Star Munro Hits Century But Auckland Go Under

Worcestershire Rapids NatWest T20 Blast overseas player, Colin Munro, hit a quickfire century but finished on the losing side with Auckland in the Plunket Shield encounter with visiting Canterbury.

Munro, who has re-signed for the county for the 2015 campaign, hammered 137 off 138 balls as Auckland chased quick runs to set up a declaration.

The 27-year-old smote seven sixes and 10 fours before eventually being stumped as he followed up his first innings knock of 62.

Auckland raced to 407-6 declared in 114.1 overs to set Canterbury a target of 362 to win in 86 overs.

But the visitors triumphed by four wickets with eight balls to spare thanks to 101 from Peter Fulton and half centuries from Neil Brown, Henry Nicholls and Andrew Ellis.

Auckland remain joint top of the table but they have been joined on the same number of points by Northern Districts while Canterbury have jumped up from fifth to third.

Munro will be returning to New Road in May in preparation for the new T20 Blast campaign which gets underway with a local derby against Birmingham Bears at Edgbaston on May 22.

The opening home game is against Leicestershire Foxes on Friday, May 29.

Munro finished as Worcestershire's second highest scorer in the competition in 2014 behind skipper Daryl Mitchell.
