worcestershire rapids head coach kevin sharp has named a 12 man squad for tomorrow’s opening royal london one-day cup match with derbyshire falcons at New Road.
ross whiteley, charlie morris and pat brown come into the squad in place of steve magoffin and ben twohig of the side which performed with great credit in the specsavers county championship match with champions essex.
paceman magoffin was always earmarked to concentrate on championship cricket after his return to the county from sussex for the 2018 campaign.
all-rounder whiteley’s ability as one of the most fearsome hitters in the domestic game is well known but he has also been encouraged to start bowling again this summer by sharp.
morris has re-established himself in the first team squad this summer and been in the 12-13 for all five championship matches, playing in the games against nottinghamshire and surrey.
brown made his first team breakthrough last summer, featuring in four of the last five championship matches after making his debut in the t20 blast.
he is available tomorrow after missing the seconds trophy games with nottinghamshire and durham this week due to exam commitments at the city of worcester university.
worcestershire have a proud record in the one-day cup during the past two seasons, qualifying for the quarter-finals in 2016 and securing a home semi-final in 2017 as north group winners.
they have won 10 of their 16 group matches in that period and their only group loss last summer was against lancashire lightning.
