QUICKFIRE KNOCK FROM COX BUT VOLTS GO UNDER IN SUPER SMASH

Ben Cox made a quickfire 19 but was on the losing side as Otago Volts went down by 54 runs to Central Districts in the Super Smash in Napier, New Zealand today.

The Worcestershire wicket-keeper batsman came to the wicket with his side already in deep trouble at 61-5 in pursuit of a 209 target.

The County’s Vitality Blast finals day double man of the match quickly showed his attacking intent.

The former Bromsgrove School pupil hit successive deliveries from Ajaz Patel for four and six.

But the 12th delivery of his knock led to him being caught and bowled by Ben Wheeler – seventh out at 84 off the first ball of the 14th over.

The Volts closed their innings on 154-8.

Earlier Cox, in his third appearance in the tournament, had taken one catch to dismiss Districts opener George Worker (19) off Jacob Duffy.

The Volts went onto amass 208-7 from their 20 overs.

Cox and his team-mates will next be in action on Sunday when they take on Auckland in Dunedin.
