PRESIDENT LEADS TRIBUTES AFTER PASSING AWAY OF CATERING STALWART

Worcestershire CCC President Phil Neale has led the tributes after the sad passing away at the age of 90 of Mary Coombe who was a key figure in the Catering Department at Visit Worcestershire New Road for 25 years.

Mary celebrated her 90th birthday on January 7th with her twin sister but sadly, was taken ill later that afternoon and passed away in hospital on 12th January.

She played a key role when working in the Marquee, the main bar in the pavilion and also what were then the new executive boxes in the New Road stand.

Phil, who was Club Captain when Mary began her employment with Worcestershire, said: “She was a stalwart of the catering department at Worcestershire and worked in all the hospitality areas. She epitomised the family atmosphere that we are so proud of at New Road”.

“Also, she always remembered me if any cheesecake was left over from the executive boxes!”

Mary’s funeral will be held at Worcester Crematorium, Astwood Road, on Wednesday (February 19) at 1.45pm.
