Birmingham Phoenix have chosen Worcestershire Rapids fast-bowler Dillon Pennington as their Vitality Wildcard Draft pick for The Hundred.
Pennington has earned his call-up after a series of impressive performances for the Rapids in the Vitality Blast this summer.
Last week he produced startling figures of 4-0 from his opening two overs in the encounter with Yorkshire Vikings at Headingley.
But he has been consistent throughout the 2021 campaign with his Blast form following on from career-best match figures of 9-76 in the LV=Insurance County Championship against Derbyshire at New Road.
Worcestershire Cricket Steering Group Chairman, Paul Pridgeon, believes Pennington’s call-up is well deserved.
He said: “Dillon deserves everything he is getting at the minute. He is bowling very well, and his attitude and work ethic is exemplary.
“He probably has not had the rewards that his performances have deserved – but he is getting what he deserves now (with The Hundred call-up).”
Pennington will link up with fellow Rapids teammates Moeen Ali and Pat Brown as part of the Phoenix squad.
The other Rapids players involved in the new competition are Ben Cox (Trent Rockets) and Ross Whiteley (Southern Brave).
