Worcestershire Women’s Rapids batter, Ebony-Jade Tweats, has enjoyed a promising start to the summer and continued to prove her worth with a stellar unbeaten 77 away to Leicestershire Foxes, as she powered her team to victory.
Fresh from County Cup qualification in extraordinary circumstances against Leicestershire Foxes, Worcestershire Women’s Rapids headed back to the East Midlands to commence their 2026 Vitality Blast T20 campaign on Friday.
Women’s Rapids Head Coach Ed Wilson was keen to stress the importance of his batters pushing onto more meaningful contributions with the bat, a key focus area for the side after the squad had struggled to impose themselves on opposition bowling attacks so far in 2026.
Tweats’ match-winning 77* will therefore please Wilson greatly, as the right-hander shouldered responsibility to rebuild the Rapids’ innings, having joined proceedings with the visitors 24-3.
“It’s an amazing feeling. I’ve always wanted to contribute to this team, and I think I’ve shown that today.
“Hopefully I can take a step forward and carry on doing that and putting in performances to help the team.”
The Foxes batted well, as Worcestershire endeavoured to keep their talented top order within reach.
“I think the bowlers stuck to the plan very well. Our fielding wasn’t great at the start, but we upped that standard from the 12th over onwards. It was crucial to keep them at 160 and to a score that is chaseable, as we have shown.”
Starting the season with a promising 28 away to Sussex Sharks, before notching 30 against Middlesex, Tweats claimed her maiden half-century for the club in the 14th over, coming from 39 deliveries.
“It was an amazing feeling.
“We had lost a few wickets, and it was important we got a few partnerships.
“I think myself and Gwen did really well to put a partnership together, and then obviously me and Boycs at the end as well.
“I obviously ran her out, but I thought I would just make it a bit more interesting towards the end.
“But no, it was an amazing feeling.”
Needing just four runs to claim an opening day Blast victory, the Rapids lost their seventh and eighth wicket in the space of two balls, as Worcestershire heart rates began to race.
“I was sweating a little bit, but ultimately I had to just stay calm.
“I just said to Jess, make sure you see this over out and then we’ll try and go for it at the end.”
