An emphatic batting display from Brett D’Oliveira and Adam Hose set Worcestershire on their way to their first Vitality Blast victory of the season, as they cruised past Yorkshire by 60 runs.
The stand of 117 between the pair for the third wicket changed the momentum of the Worcestershire innings, as the score was propelled to a competitive 201-5 at the halfway stage.
As the bowlers came together to rip apart the visitor’s middle order, Yorkshire were never able to get a foothold in the game.
D’Oliveira, was delighted how his side came together across both innings, labelling the impressive performance a big improvement on Thursday night.
“I thought we were quite clinical with the bat today. I thought myself and Hosey (Adam Hose), when we when we got in, we managed to kick on and get a bigger score. I don’t think we quite managed to do that last game.
“And then with the ball, I thought, there was real clarity in the plans. Obviously with runs on the board then you get those early wickets, it’s hard to gain back that momentum.
“Yeah, it felt like a real team performance today. Really pleasing, especially after the last game. I felt we were really close last game, actually, but didn’t quite get over the line. So, to get over the line today was really pleasing.
The skipper, who made a career best T20 score of 79 on the day, impressed from the outset as he seems to have put his challenging start to the year in the longer format well behind him.
His swashbuckling innings, paired with a classy knock from Adam Hose, set his team on their way to a big first innings total, and the fearless approach from the pair is something they have been working on, says, D’Oliveira.
“I think 20/20, sort of dictates that you can’t fear almost getting out at times. You have to sort of try and take the game to the opposition. Thankfully, myself and Hosey managed execute that for a period of time.
“To contribute, especially when you get a win is always really pleasing, and it has been tough. But as a group, we have sat down with each other and talked about it, we’ve got to try and adapt.
“Everyone’s trying their best, and no one’s up there sulking or anything like that, but it was nice to get some runs today.”
