Overseas Update: Dan back with a bang as Sikandar shines at World Cup

Published 03/03/2026

After another busy few weeks of action, it is time to take a look at the progress of our lads who are in action overseas, with updates from South Africa, Australia and India, our playing contingent are continuing to shine as the 2026 English domestic season edges ever closer.

Dan Lategan has made a fine return to action, whilst Sikandar Raza’s Zimbabwe bowed out of the T20 World Cup, but not without some stunning cameo’s from the Captain.

Ben Gibbon, Matthew Waite and Ben Allison have all continued to hit their straps in Australia, while Gareth Roderick’s sublime South African summer shows no signs of stopping.

Dan Lategan: Durbanville CC (South Africa)

Dan has returned to action in style, playing a central role in Durbanville’s run of seven straight wins.

With a breezy 36 off 24 balls in a 52-run win over Cape Town a few weeks ago, he helped his side to 271-5 before his opponents were bowled out for 219, with Dan taking 2-41 with the ball.

He followed up with 17 against Green Point CC, in a five-wicket win, before scoring 57* from just 44 balls as he anchored his side’s chase of 138 in a comfortable seven wicket win over Belville CC, in a second innings that lasted just 18 overs.

Dan was only required for six balls in his next fixture against Victoria, where they once again eased to a nine-wicket win, with Dan ending 16 unbeaten, before extending his fine form against UWC CC with a cultured 48 from 62 balls.

His finest knock since returning from injury was yet to come however, as Dan reeled off a stunning 112* from 111 balls in Durbanville’s emphatic seven wicket win over Ottoman CC. Opening the batting, the teenage starlet stroked 10-fours and four-sixes as he set the tone from the top of the order.

Sikandar Raza: Zimbabwe (World Cup)

Despite having exited the tournament, the captain played a pivotal role in their tournament progression, that saw his side depart in the Super 8s.

The all-rounder produced a pivotal 45 off 26 (two-fours and four-sixes) in the middle order against Sri Lanka to help his team chase down 179 and win by six-wickets in their final group game.

Soon after, the Super 8s phase started against West Indies, in what transpired to be a one-sided game where Sikandar chipped in with a quickfire 27 that was ultimately in a losing cause.

In his next game, a 72-run loss against high-flying India, Sikandar once again showed his credentials taking 1-29 from 3 overs, before adding impetus with the bat, scoring 31 off 21 balls at a strike-rate of 147.

The skipper saved his best until the final game of the tournament, where he blitzed 73 off 43, in an incredible exhibition of power-hitting, with his innings comprising of eight fours and four sixes, propelling his team to 153-7 after 20 overs.

Opening the bowling, he recorded exceptional figures of 3-29 from three overs, including the vital wickets of Aiden Markram, Quinton de Kock and Dewald Brevis. Although Sikandar’s efforts were in vein as Zimbabwe exited the tournament, his individual display’s provided a timely reminder of his world-class abilities in white ball cricket.

Ben Allison and Matthew Waite: Altona North CC (Australia)

Altona North beat Yarraville CC by 36 runs, Kookaburra Sports Senior Division in their most recent two-day fixture where both Ben and Matthew played key roles.

Ben batted at four (53 off 61) to continue his excellent form with the bat, while Matthew made 13 in their side’s total of 248. Ben opened the bowling and finished with 2-55 from a 19 over spell, as Matthew took 1-62 off 11 overs to help bowl out their opponents for 212.

Next up was a One Day game against Westmeadows CC, where the game was abandoned due to rain. Prior to the early finish, Ben scored 41 at number four from 55 balls before being trapped LBW, whilst Matthew scored seven at number five as they totalled 168-8 from allotted 40 overs. The scoreboard read 43-2 when second innings was cut short, with Ben making an early breakthrough to pick up another wicket (7-2-28-1).

Ben Gibbon: Sturt CC (Australia)

In his recent West End Men’s First Grade Div One game against East Torrens, Ben took 1-16 to help dismiss his opponents for 183, before Sturt chased it down with four wickets to spare.

Gareth Roderick: Green Point CC (South Africa)

Gareth’s cultured 62 off 80 balls helped his Green Point CC team up to to 238/4 against Victoria CC, before dismissing their opponents for 135 in a landslide 103 run-win.

His recent good form was extended against Belville CC, where Gareth scored 57 from 68 balls in a narrow three-wicket defeat. Despite Gareth’s half-century helping his side up to 182, they were unable to defend their modest total.
