Worcestershire Rapids 2nd XI raced to a six wicket win over Northants Steelbacks, as they chased down 153 in a very polished performance in the T20 Central Group.

Fateh Singh (4-24) and Jake Libby (41*) starred as Worcestershire Rapids got their Central Group campaign back on track.

Making the short journey to Stourport-on-Severn Cricket Club, the Rapids named a strong playing eleven, that was skippered by Jake Libby and included Fateh Singh and Matthew Waite.

After losing the toss and bowling first, the Steelbacks made a quick start, reaching 56 after eight overs, before a triple-strike from the Rapids made it 58-3.

It was the in-form Worcestershire spinner, Fateh Singh, who continued to impress, taking all three of those crucial top-order wickets for his side.

Ben Gibbon (1-23) then took his side’s fourth wicket to make it 71-4, as the Rapids pulled back the momentum in the middle overs.

Jack Home, Harry Darley and Jake Libby all bowled economical spells of under six an over as the Steelbacks were restricted to 153-6 from their 20 overs.

Exciting youngster Isaac Mohammed, kicked off the chase in emphatic style, as he blasted 38 from 25 balls, in an innings that included five-fours and a six.

After he was stumped, skipper for the day Jake Libby came to the crease, looking to guide his side through the run chase.

Rehaan Edavalath (11) and Rob Jones (12) got started, but couldn’t stay around for sustained periods of time, as Worcestershire found themselves 97-3 in the 13th over.

Having recently caught the eye, Henry Cullen, made a start, but could only reach 16 before his wicket was taken, bringing the returning Waite to the middle, with 28 required to win.

He took his team over the line in style, lashing 25 from eight balls, in an explosive knock that saw him score three sixes, eventually proving enough to get him and partner Libby (41*) to the finish.

Next up for the 2nd XI, its a trip to Sophia Gardens tomorrow, to face Glamorgan 2nd XI.
