Worcestershire Women’s Rapids travel to Bristol looking to back up Friday’s thrilling last over win against Kent, searching for a second victory in as many games in the competition.

Boosted by the return of some familiar faces to the squad, the Rapids will be hoping to pick up where they left off, inspired by a superb bowling display that saw them seal a nail biting three run win.

Youngster Bryony Gillgrass was a shining light with the bat during Friday’s win, top scoring with 34 at the top of the order for the Rapids, before backing up her display with an effective bowling performance, taking 3-18.

Amy Maund blew the Kent top order away with a stunning spell that saw her record exceptional figures of 4-7 as she led from the front with the ball for the Rapids.

Ed Wilson will once again be hoping for more from his top order batters, after Friday saw the visitors reduced to 47-4, where the returning Olivia Gough played an important hand to help Worcestershire out of trouble.

With Sophie Beech and Caitlin Baker-Smith missing against Kent, the Rapids reliance on their young crop of stars is set to continue, with more emphasis on a cohesive performance in the field that helped the girls over the line in Canterbury.

Ed Wilson looks ahead to Gloucestershire challenge

After a topsy-turvy start to 2026 in the Vitality T20 Blast, Worcestershire Women’s Rapids Head Coach is eager for his side to free the shackles as they head to Bristol on Sunday.

Raising the curtain on a hotly anticipated double-header at the Seat Unique Stadium, the Rapids will lock horns with a well-drilled Gloucestershire side.   

The winter’s overhaul of the T20 mindset and approach has not quite vindicated itself for Wilson and his playing group, with the Rapids struggling to meet the standards set in the memorable opening-day run chase away at Leicestershire.   

Despite an early tournament blip with the bat, the Head Coach is assured that, given the fast-paced nature of the short format, his squad will take their chance to implement and adapt to their new strategy.   

“In a word, it has been frustrating.  

“We were excited after that first game at Leicestershire when we chased down 157, but we haven’t quite put together a complete performance since then.  

“There have been periods where we’ve played some really good cricket, but not consistently enough across the 20 overs.  

“The batting group has shown plenty of positive signs. We’ve had players getting starts in almost every game, but in T20 cricket, you often need someone to turn 20 or 30 into a match-defining innings.  

“That’s the next step for us as a batting unit. Things can change quickly in T20 cricket, and sometimes one player can win you a game.  

“It’s been about reinforcing that message and encouraging players to be the one who puts in a match-defining performance.”  

There is no shortage of players who can take the mantle for the Rapids, with a line-up including the likes of Clare Boycott, Bryony Gillgrass, and Sophie Beech nodding to the capabilities that lie within the Worcestershire side.   

Looking for an upturn in fortunes themselves, however, Gloucestershire will be all too aware of the threats that their opponents possess.   

Wilson says the chance to play at an international venue is the perfect setting for the squad to put their intentions into practice and cut loose.  

“It takes time. The players are learning about their own strengths while also recognising those moments in games where we need to push harder or absorb a little pressure.  

“The players love playing at the main grounds. Gloucestershire are a side we know fairly well, and they’re a dangerous team. It will be another tough challenge, but also another opportunity to test ourselves and continue refining how we want to play this format.  

“There’s still a lot of cricket to be played in this competition, and we haven’t reached our best yet.  

“The challenge now is turning the good moments we’ve shown into consistent performances, and we’re excited about the opportunity to do that over the coming weeks.” 

Gloucestershire Women

The Bristol-based side have seen a major upturn in T20 fortunes after a challenging 2025, but have started well, enjoying an early win over Kent Women in the group stage last weekend.

Defending an imposing 192, Gloucestershire had Alice Munday to thank for a stellar knock of 75 from just 40 balls that set her side up to post a big score, that they defended thanks to two wickets apiece from Charlotte Roberts and Liv Daniels.

After an opening weekend defeat to Glamorgan, Fran Wilson’s outfit have hit back in style and possess plenty of threatening options that will pose plenty of questions to the Rapids.
