Clare Boycott confident Rapids can “bounce back” after defeat at Middlesex

Published 11/05/2026

Worcestershire Women’s Rapids Captain Clare Boycott rued the missed opportunities by her side during Sunday’s seven-wicket Metro Bank One Day Cup defeat at Radlett.

Batting first, it was the returning skipper who opened up with last week’s stand-in Captain Gwen Davies, looking to make an assertive start to proceedings for their side, who were looking to make it three wins in succession.

Boycott settled in, with Ebony Jade-Tweats for company, as the pair added a controlled 55 for the second wicket.

However, the pair were unable to kick on as they would have liked, scoring 37 and 30 respectively, and their dismissals stalled progress for the Rapids.

Despite Sanya Khurana adding some lower-order impetus with a breezy 42 at better than a run-a-ball, Worcestershire were tied down by some efficient Middlesex bowling that restricted the visitors to 217 all-out.

Boycott said both she and Tweats had done the hard work to get themselves set, but shared her frustration that neither could go on to anchor the innings for the Rapids.

“It was one of those days where they took their opportunities to go on and score big, and we didn’t quite manage that.

“I got myself in, Ebs got herself in, but we didn’t quite kick on as we could have done.

“When we were batting together, we both said that we were building a nice platform for the girls below us to come in and score at a quicker rate, where they could come in and go big, but things just didn’t pan out that way.

“They are a very good side; at this level, they are very professional and today were just more clinical than us.”

The home side went on to show why they are so far unbeaten in 2026, easing to their target with 11.3 overs to spare.

Pheobe Brett continued her excellent recent form, returning figures of 2-40, only a few days on from her superb five-wicket haul for an Emerging England XI who took on New Zealand Women at Chester-le-Street.

Keen to sharpen their focus ahead of the return to Vitality T20 action this Sunday, Boycott’s side will begin their preparations for this weekend’s away fixture against Leicestershire Foxes Women.

With the 13-run against the Foxes still fresh in the girls’ minds from just a fortnight ago, Boycott is eager for her team to draw on that performance as they switch back to the shortened format.

“We always look forward to the change in format, going back to T20, at a ground where we posted a nice score against Northumberland.

“We beat Leicestershire last time we played them a couple of weeks ago, so we will take great confidence from that.

“It is a really good chance for us to bounce back and get back to winning ways.”
