Brilliant Brookes shines for England at Hong Kong Sixes

Published 10/11/2025

Ethan Brookes’ stellar form in 2025 continued over the weekend as the all-rounder starred for England at the Hong Kong Sixes.

Having enjoyed a memorable summer in Worcestershire colours, Brookes was rewarded with a call-up to represent his nation at the world renowned Hong Kong Sixes, alongside fellow stars from the domestic scene.

Although unsuccessful in their quest for the trophy, Brookes made plenty of eye-catching contributions as England made their way to the last-four of the tournament.

The high-octane tournament saw 12 teams from across the globe compete in the unique six-a-side competition, where stars from each country looked to set the six over format alight with some action-packed cricket.

Drawn in a group alongside old foes Australia and the UAE, no play was possible on the opening day, as England qualified for the quarter-final stages on Saturday, where they would face hosts, Hong Kong.

After losing the toss and being invited to bat first, Brookes made his way to the middle with his side 49-1, proceeding to slam a brutal half-century off just 11 deliveries, in a brutal assault that saw the 24-year-old smash three-fours and six-sixes at an eye-watering strike rate of 454.54.

Having propelled England to a mammoth 122-4 from their allotted six overs, Brookes produced an exceptional over with the ball where he recorded figures of 2-6, to see his side home by 41 runs and earn himself the player of the match award in the process.

Through to the semi-final stages, Brookes once again starred with the ball, picking up-three wickets in his two-over spell as England were set a seismic 143 to secure a place in the final.

Brookes and his teammates were unable to recreate their heroics from the previous day, however, as England bowed out of the tournament after a 37-run defeat at the hands of Kuwait.
