Worcestershire County Cricket Club is delighted to announce the signing of New Zealand international Henry Nicholls for the next part of the 2025 season.
The 33-year-old left-hander will be available for selection in the Rothesay County Championship until the end of June, bringing a wealth of international experience and top-order quality to the squad.
A classy and aggressive batter from Canterbury, Nicholls has represented New Zealand in 56 Test matches, scoring nearly 3,000 runs, including 9 centuries and 12 half-centuries. Known for his organised technique and ability to play long innings, he has been a key player in the Blackcaps’ middle order and helped them to win the inaugural World Test Championship in 2021.
Nicholls made his Test debut in 2016 and quickly gained a reputation for his resilience under pressure. His maiden century came against South Africa in Wellington, and he followed that with a series of key innings, including an unbeaten 145 against England that helped New Zealand to a historic series win, and a century in Abu Dhabi that led to a landmark victory over Pakistan.
He was also a key contributor in the 2019 Cricket World Cup, scoring a composed 55 in the final at Lord’s during one of the most dramatic matches in cricket history.
Worcestershire Head Coach Alan Richardson said: “Henry is a proven performer at the highest level, and we’re thrilled to have him with us for the next part of our Championship campaign.
His experience, temperament, and ability to play match-defining innings will be a fantastic asset to our squad as we look to start the season strongly.”
Nicholls added: “I’m really looking forward to this opportunity with Worcestershire.
I’ve always been a fan of county cricket, and to contribute to a team with such a rich history and passionate following is something I’m excited about.
I can’t wait to get started and help the team out.”
Nicholls will join the squad ahead of Worcestershire’s upcoming Championship fixture against Durham starting Friday 25 April at Visit Worcestershire New Road.
