The Western Province Cricket Association-Jive Saint Augustine Cricket Club Inaugural Gala Dinner forming part of a legacy project in honour of Basil D'Oliveira has been postponed until next month.
The Gala Dinner had been scheduled to take place at the Grand Arena, GrandWest Entertainment Complex in Cape Town tomorrow (January 7) but has now been put back until February 15.
But the Youth Cricket Experience Day will take place at the home of Jive Saint Augustine Cricket Club, Elfindale on January 8 as originally planned.
Funds raised will go towards building a Basil D'Oliveira Clubhouse at Elfindale and also provide support to Western Province Cricket Association and all of the member clubs.
D'Oliveira played for Worcestershire from, 1965 to 1980 before becoming head coach and his grandson, Brett, is spending the winter with St. Augustine after signing a new three year contract with Worcestershire.
A statement from Western Province Cricket Association chief executive Nabeal Dien reads: "On behalf of Western Province Cricket Association and Jive Saint Augustine Cricket Club and in consultation with all our relevant sponsors and partners, we have decided to postpone the Gala Dinner to February 15 2016 to allow us to ensure that the Legacy Project meets its intended objectives.
"Despite all the hard work and efforts of all concerned connected to the Project, the reality is that we underestimated the time we chose to host the dinner and it was logistically not feasible for all our stakeholders, hence the postponement.
"Everything earmarked to take place as originally planned remains in place from the attendance of the International Players, VIP Administrators and Cricket Ambassadors of the game as well as the high profiled auction leading up the event.
"We apologize to the many individuals and companies that have already secured their tables and tickets and they will remain valid for February 15 2016. "The Youth Cricket Day Experience will go ahead as schedule on January 8 2016."
