NEW CLUB CAPTAIN BRETT D’OLIVEIRA WINNER OF WCCSA PLAYER OF MONTH FOR APRIL

Brett D’Oliveira was the clearcut winner of the Worcestershire County Cricket Supporters’ Association Player of the Month for April.

Worcestershire’s new Club Captain polled 68% of the votes after an outstanding start to the 2022 campaign.

D’Oliveira scored unbeaten centuries in each of his opening two games as official captain against Leicestershire and Sussex.

He said: “The start of the season could hardly have gone better for me in those two games, and thank you to everyone who took the trouble to vote for me.

“A lot of our lads have played some excellent cricket during the early part of the season, and it was a strong shortlist.”

Ed Barnard finished as runners-up with 18% after his own excellent beginning to the summer, which included a career-best 163 not out against Nottinghamshire.

In third spot was newcomer Ed Pollock on 8% after he marked his first-ever taste ofLV=Insurance County Championship cricket with a century against Leicestershire and 77 versus Sussex.

Also on the shortlist of four was Joe Leach, who picked up ten wickets in two games and scored 70 versus Leicestershire. He received 4% of the votes.

More than 1500 Members and Supporters took the time to vote in 2022.

From April through to September, the chance will be there each month to select the player who has been outstanding for Worcestershire.

A shortlist of four players will be drawn up every month from which the Player of the Month can be voted for.
