Moeen Voted Specsavers County Championship Player Of The Week

Moeen Ali has been voted the Specsavers County Championship Player Of The Week after his sterling efforts at Scarborough.

The Worcestershire all-rounder polled 49 per cent of the vote from the quartet of players put forward on the short list.

Moeen scored 219 not out in Worcestershire’s only innings and in addition he picked up eight wickets in the game for 89 runs including 6-49 in Yorkshire’s second innings.

His efforts played a sizeable part in Worcestershire registering their biggest ever win over Yorkshire – an innings and 186 runs.

Moeen, who skippered the County at Scarborough, edged out Somerset spinner Jack Leach.

He returned career best figures of 8-85 in second innings of the victory over Essex at the Cooper Associates Ground, Taunton.

The other two nominees were Hampshire and England batsman James Vince and Sussex batsman Phillip Salt.

Vince scored 74 and 147 in his side’s 270 run success over Nottinghamshire at the Ageas Bowl while Salt made 148 for Sussex in the 243 run success over Derbyshire at the 1st Central County Ground, Hove.

*Moeen – and Vince – have been named in England’s squad for the fourth Test with India at the Ageas Bowl beginning next Thursday.
