Worcestershire Rapids Vitality Blast captain, Moeen Ali, made another substantial contribution with the bat to help Comilla Victorians to a thrilling win in the final of the Bangladesh Premier League
Moeen was Comilla Victorians second top scorer with 38 off 32 balls against Fortune Barishal in Mirpur and his side triumphed by one run.
The all-rounder finished top of his side’s batting averages in the tournament.
Moeen came in at 83-4 in the ninth over and, after the loss of two more quick wickets, added 54 for the seventh wicket with Abu Hider (19).
Moeen hit one six – off Mehedi Hasan Rana – and two fours before he was run out off the first ball of the final over attempting a second run to keep the strike.
His final run tally in the competition was 225 at an average of 37.50 and an impressive strike rate of 150.00
Victorians totalled 151-9 after opting to bat and it looked being an insufficient total to defend as Fortune Barishal reached 107-2 in the 13th over.
But a slowing in the scoring rate and a cluster of wickets enabled Moeen and his team-mates to restrict their opponents to 150-8.
Moeen bowled three overs for 28 runs but it was a rare wicketless day after his previous four games had yielded returns of 2-20, 1-13, 2-23 and 3-20.
