Moeen Ali has revealed his delight at achieving two personal milestones for England in Test cricket.
The Worcestershire all-rounder clocked up 2,000 runs and 100 wickets on the second day of the First Investec Test with South Africa at Lord's.
He became the second quickest England player after former skipper Tony Greig – and the fifth fastest of all time – to reach those specific goals.
Moeen said: "If somebody had told me when I started out that I would end up with these stats, then I would have bitten their hand off.
"I am especially pleased with my bowling stats. I never thought I would have 100 Test wickets and it wasa great feeling to do it on the same day at Lord's."
Former Worcestershire all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan achieve the two milestones in 31 Tests for Bangladesh with Moeen clocking them up in 38 games.
Moeen resumed yesterday on 61 and advanced his total to 87 before he was bowled by Kagiso Rabada after striking eight fours in his 147 ball knock.
He came to the wicket at 190-5 and was eighth out at 413-8 after another splendid innings.
Moeen reached 2,000 runs when on 73 at an average of more than 35 in what is his 38th Test.
Then, after England had been bowled out for 458, the 30-year-old got to work with the ball and picked up the prized wickets of Hashim Amla and stand-in Proteas skipper Dean Elgar.
Wicket number 99 came when Amla on 29 played back to a ball which spun sharply and was lbw.
Wicket number 100 arrived when Elgar on 54 got an inside onto the pad and the ball popped up to Gary Ballance at short leg.
