Moeen Completes 1,000 Odi Runs As England Are Edged Out

Moeen Ali completed 1,000 ODI runs on his way to an excellent 50 as England went down fighting in a high-scoring clash with India in Cuttack.

The Worcestershire all-rounder smashed 55 off 43 deliveries with six fours as England chased India's formidable 381-6 in 50 overs.

He reached the four figure mark in his 48th ODI – almost three years after making his debut against the West Indies in the Caribbean.

It was Moeen's fourth ODI half century in addition to two hundreds.

He came to the wicket at 206-5 in the 32nd over and added 93 in 12 overs with skipper Eoin Morgan.

But the first delivery after changing his bat led to Moeen's downfall as he bottom edged a ball from Bhuvneshwar Kumar into his stumps.

Morgan went onto make 102 from 81 balls before he was run out and England fell just short on 366-8.

Jason Roy (82) and Joe Root (54) were England's other main contributors.

Moeen had been England's most economical bowler with 0-33 from six overs as India recovered from 25-3 with Yuvraj Singh (150) and MS Dhoni (134) adding 256 in 38 overs for the fourth wicket.
