MOEEN BACK IN WORCESTERSHIRE ACTION AT WANTAGE ROAD

Moeen Ali will make his first Specsavers County Championship appearance of the season in tomorrow’s (Sunday’s) encounter with Northamptonshire at Wantage Road.

The 32-year-old will be back in County action after taking a short break following a hectic spell of international commitments with England.

Moeen is the proud owner of an ICC World Cup winners medal and also featured at the start of the Ashes Series.

England captain Joe Root has backed Moeen to make a return to the international stages sooner rather than later.

But his focus is now on Worcestershire in the immediate future.

Worcestershire First Team Coach Alex Gidman said: “Obviously we all hope that Moeen is soon back playing for England for whom he has been an integral part of the team and produced many match-winning performances.

“But equally we are all always delighted to welcome him back to play for Worcestershire and he always gives the lads a lift when he walks through the dressing room door.

“Last summer his all-round performance in the Championship match at Scarborough was exceptional and helped him to return to the Test side where he enjoyed great success against India, Sri Lanka and the West Indies.

“But he was also a massive part of our Vitality Blast success, not only with his contributions with bat and ball but also as captain.

“Already this season his one appearance against Notts Outlaws (4-18) produced a sizeable impact.”
