Moeen Ali and his England team-mates will be looking to hit back in Thursday's second ODI with India in Cuttack after being unable to defend a 350 total in the opening game of the series in Pune.
Worcestershire all-rounder Moeen provided a late and effective cameo role batting at number seven after England had been put in by Virat Kohli.
He smashed 28 off 17 balls and share in a sixth wicket stand of 73 in just 5.3 overs with Ben Stokes.
Moeen hit three fours and a six and his strike rate of 164.00 was the highest of the innings.
Jason Roy (73), Joe Root (78) and Stokes (62) helped England amass a formidable looking 350-7 in their 50 overs.
But Moeen and all the bowlers were powerless to stop India reaching their target with 11 balls to spare.
After reducing India to 63-4, Kohli (122) and Kadar Jadhav (120) plundered 200 for the fifth wicket in just 25 overs.
Moeen finished with 0-48 from 6.1 overs while fellow spinner Adil Rashid conceded 50 in five overs.
It was the third time India had successfully chased down 350 in an ODI.
