Worcestershire skipper Daryl Mitchell has hailed the return to form this season of middle order batsman Alexei Kervezee.
The Dutch international showed his class with a superb 100 and half century on a green Grace Road pitch in last week's 234 run win over Leicestershire in the LV = Championship.
Those two knocks meant Kervezee has become the second Worcestershire batsman after Mitchell to score more than 500 Championship runs this summer.
Mitchell said: "I thought the hundred from Alexei (Kervezee) at Grace Road was an incredible effort on that wicket up against an experienced seam attack.
"It kept us in the game and enabled us to eventually keep it ‘even stevens’ after the first innings.
"Everyone who has seen Alexei bat knows how talented he is. It is just a case of applying himself and getting those scores out in the middle.
"By his own standards, he has under-achieved over the last couple of years, so to get back to some good form is great.
"He has played sensibly this year, probably not as extravagant as he has been in the past, and is picking and choosing when to play his shots."
