Daryl Mitchell will switch from becoming a Vitality Blast record holder to Second Eleven cricket when he plays for Worcestershire Seconds in the Championship match with Nottinghamshire Seconds at Lady Bay CC, Nottingham, beginning on Monday.
Mitchell became the first Worcestershire Rapids player to take 100 Vitality Blast wickets in the win over Derbyshire Falcons on Friday.
But, instead of having a break from action like some of his teammates, Mitchell has opted to play for the Seconds in red-ball cricket ahead of the LV=Insurance County Championship match with Warwickshire at New Road, which begins next Sunday (July 11).
Mitchell confirmed: “I’m playing in the second team this week. With the Warwickshire Championship match on the horizon, I haven’t hit any red balls.
“It was my choice to play for the Seconds and something I wanted to do.
“I haven’t got enough red-ball runs this year, and hopefully, I can get some form in that second team game and take it into the derby game.”
Jack Haynes, as expected, will return to action for the Seconds after recovering from the foot injury suffered during training.
A strong line-up will also include Club Captain Joe Leach, who will lead the side, Tom Fell and Gareth Roderick.
Seconds coach Kadeer Ali confirmed Roderick would share wicket-keeping duties with Alex Milton during the four-day game.
