Mitchell On Losing Side As Tykes Overcome Mcc With A Day To Spare

Daryl Mitchell was part of the MCC side which lost by nine wickets to Yorkshire with a day to spare in the traditional match with the Champion County in Abu Dhabi.

The Worcestershire skipper, who had scored 54 in the first innings, was dismissed for nine second time around as the MCC were bowled out for 220 in 76.5 overs.

Mitchell was one of the victims of spinner Adil Rashid who has been recalled by England for the forthcoming tour of the West Indies.

Rashid, who finished with 4-72 from 22.5 overs, will not be available to face Worcestershire in the opening LV County Championship match at New Road starting on April 12.

The same applies to the Tykes first innings century-maker Adam Lyth who has also been selected by England for the Caribbean.

Mitchell faced 14 deliveries before he was trapped lbw by Rashid.

MCC skipper Nick Compton (74) and James Hildreth (49) were the main contributors but Yorkshire were left only 70 to win and an unbeaten 46 from Lyth saw them home.

Mitchell will now return to England after more than three weeks out in Abu Dhabi to prepare with the county for the new campaign.

He had previously been part of Worcestershire's pre-season trip to Abu Dhabi and remained in the UAE to link up with the MCC after his team-mates had flown home.
