Daryl Mitchell hopes he will be "in the frame" to play for England if he repeats this summer in Division One of the LV = County Championship the form he demonstrated in helping Worcestershire to promotion.
The county skipper scored 1,334 runs in Division Two with five centuries and only Hampshire's James Vince scored more runs in the division than the 31-year-old opening batsman.
Worcestershire Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes felt last summer that Mitchell should have at least come under consideration from the England selectors after his consistent level of performances.
Mitchell is currently preparing with the MCC for the annual curtain raiser to the season against champion county Yorkshire in Abu Dhabi from March 22 to 25.
He warmed up for the match with two half centuries during Worcestershire's pre-season tour of Abu Dhabi which ended at the weekend.
Mitchell said: "Would I love to play England? If I have a similar season this year in Division One to what I had in Division Two, then I'll be somewhere near (England) I would have thought.
"It's all about getting weight of runs.
"There is no point in worrying about it. It's all about concentrating on what you do in your day job if you like.
"It's day to day, trying to score a hundred everytime I go out to bat for Worcestershire.
"If that comes off well, then I'll certainly be in the frame if I play well enough and get enough runs."
