Worcestershire skipper Daryl Mitchell is to play alongside Brian Lara for the MCC at Lord's on Sunday in a match to mark the 200th anniversary of the first fixture staged on the ground.
On June 22, 1814 the MCC faced Hertfordshire in the first game at the home of cricket and exactly 200 years later the same two sides will face each other again in a 40 over contest starting at 2pm.
It is an occasion that Mitchell is relishing and there will be off the field attractions to mark the occasion with members of the general public allowed in the Lord's pavilion and also to sit on the outfield for the first time since 1987.
Mitchell said: "It's nice to get picked for such an occasion. You never turn down the opportunity to play at Lord's.
"It's the home of cricket and a great place. I'm really looking forward to it.
" There are some great players going to be there. Brian Lara is playing for us so it's nice to be involved with those kind of guys.
"My wife and mum and dad are going to come down as well so it will be a nice day."
For any county follower wanting to watch Mitchell in action the prices are £10 for adults and £5 for OAPs and Under-16s with the gates open at 12 noon.
