Mcclenaghan Determined To Help County Maintain Their Push For Honours

Mitchell McClenaghan has set his sights on helping Worcestershire sustain their push for promotion in the LV = County Championship and bid to reach NatWest T20 Blast finals day after linking up with the county.

The New Zealand paceman has arrived at New Road and undertaken his first training sessions with his new team-mates.

McClenaghan is available to make his debut in the Rapids T20 Blast away clash with Northamptonshire Steelbacks on July 18 as a replacement overseas player for Saeed Ajmal.

He revealed that he is initially contracted until August 21 but is happy to stay for the rest of the 2014 season if required by the county.

McClenaghan said: "I'm pretty excited. It's a beautiful ground. I've never played here but heard from my (Auckland) club coach Dipak Patel, who used to play for the county, about the great supporters and the ground.

"It's exciting. They are a very young squad of players and to be in the position we are in all formats, is pretty exciting.

"I'm really looking forward to red ball cricket and helping the club get back up into Division One of the Championship.

"I'm looking forward to that form of the game and hopefully keepng my form going in short form cricket as well.

"In the T20 there are quite a few crucial games coming up and the momentum the guys have got at the moment is going to be key.

"I've seen the boys have been playing exceptional cricket and I 100% back us to get to finals day and, if we were to fall short, it won't be through lack of trying."

McClenaghan would be happy to stay until New Road until the season ends on Septeber 26 if required by the club.

He said: "My initial contract is until August 21, the end of the one-day campaign (the Royal London One-Day Cup).

"But I'm definitely more than willing to stay on to the end of the season if needed.

"I'm very flexible about that, very flexible."
