Jack Shantry deservedly earned plenty of plaudits for his performances for Worcestershire last season and picked up 56 wickets in the LV County Championship as well as scoring his maiden first class century.
But a lesser known statistic about the Shantry cricketing clan is that Jack's father Brian made his final County Championship of a brief first class career at New Road 36 years ago when playing for Gloucestershire.
Shantry senior featured in the drawn game in September 1978 and had figures of 11-2-49-0 and 2-0-2-0 and did not bat in either innings.
In those days sides were restricted to 100 overs each in first innings and the highlight for Worcestershire was a Glenn Turner first innings century batting at number five.
Like Jack – and his brother Adam – Shantry senior was a left armer and also batted left handed.
He played three first class and five List A games for Gloucestershire.
After retiring from the first class game, he played for Dorset and Shropshire before calling it a day in 1996 at the age of 41.
Adam's career was cut short by injury and he played his last match for Glamorgan in 2011.
Jack is currently plying his trade this winter in Australia for Greenvale Dragons before he returns for the start of March and the county's pre-season trip to Abu Dhabi.
He recalled: "My first memory as a spectator was watching my dad play club cricket.
"My brother and I would have a big bottle of lemonade that would last us until tea-time and we'd play in the nets and watch the game."
