Leach Makes Double Breakthough Against The Bears

Leach Makes Double Breakthough Against The Bears

Worcestershire all-rounder Joe Leach continued his excellent form with two wickets in a superb new ball spell against local rivals Warwickshire at Edgbaston today.

Worcestershire skipper Daryl Mitchell decided to put the opposition in for the second successive match afer winning the toss in cloudy and windy conditions.

And Leach quickly dismissed Warwickshire opener Varun Chopra and Ian Westwood in the LV = County Championship Division One clash.

Leach had scored 95 and taken five wickets on his return to the side for the innings and 62 runs win over Somerset.

He began with two maidens and broke through in his next over when Chopra (3) edged to Mitchell who took a good catch at second slip with nine runs on the board.

Ian Porterfield collected a couple of boundaries off Charlie Morris who had taken career best match figures of 9-109 against Somerset.

Jack Shantry replaced Morris after an initial five over spell.

It was Leach who made the second breakthrough when Westwood was adjudged lbw for eight to leave the Bears on 20-2 in the 10th over.

Leach was finally taken out of the attack after excellent figures of 8-3-11-2.

Shantry, who had taken the last four Somerset wickets in the space of 17 balls on Tuesday, struck for the first time in this game to remove Porterfield who ticked down the legside and was caught behind by keeper Ben Cox after making 29.

Warwickshire were then 53-3 in the 24th over and by lunch had moved onto 70-3 from 30 overs with Laurie Evans on 23 and Sam Hain six.

The Worcestershire bowling figures were Morris 11-1-37-0, Leach 9-3-13-2, Shantry 10-2-19-1.
