Skipper Joe Leach says the presence of Ravichandran Ashwin has given the Worcestershire players the same sort of confidence as when Saeed Ajmal in his prime was part of the team.
Indian star Ashwin has helped Worcestershire win all three Specsavers County Championship matches since he linked up with the County.
He has taken 13 wickets and made important contributions with the bat as well as being a huge influence in the dressing room.
Today’s six wicket success has lifted Worcestershire into top position in Division Two – nine points clear of Nottinghamshire – and with their destiny in their own hands.
Ashwin arrived in the aftermath of a disappointing T20 Blast campaign and a home defeat to Sussex in the Championship.
Leach said: “His presence in the dressing room was probably exactly what we needed at the time.
“It’s not just people’s performances on the pitch that dictate their status in the game.
“The way Ashwin is around the dressing room, the confidence he gives the lads is similar to when we had Saeed Ajmal.
“The guys think we can win from any position because he is a guy capable of getting the best players out in the world.”
